European Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Week 2020 – “Breath Unlimited with Free Individual Spirometers”

BREATH UNLIMITED

FREE INDIVIDUAL SPIROMETERS

Within the framework of the multi-level campaign “Breath Unlimited”, the Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association took the initiative and provided 170 individual spirometers through donations. These are respiratory function monitoring devices that will help in the self-management of the condition of Cystic Fibrosis patients while protecting them from hospital visits in the time of the pandemic.

In-hospital spirometry testing is part of the regular monitoring of respiratory function of Cystic Fibrosis patients by the treating physician, as the organ that is destroyed first is the lung, and frequent monitoring is even more important for patients with respiratory failure. Now, due to the coronavirus pandemic, patients’ visits to hospitals should be avoided at all costs and spirometry testing can be done remotely from the patient’s home using the individual spirometer, as is done in many C.F. centres abroad.

These Spirobank Smart individual spirometers from the widely recommended and trusted MIR company, were designed and are available to organisations to meet the needs of remote, self-management of the disease. Their specifications have been tested and approved by the Cystic Fibrosis scientific community, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of America recently administered these spirometers to its patients in a similar initiative.

Warm thanks to the donors for their prompt response and support:
