European CF Awareness Week 2023- “Cystic Fibrosis: Preparing for the future” conference

On the occasion of the European Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Week, 20-25 November 2023 and HCFA’s 40th anniversary, the Asociation organised the conference “Cystic Fibrosis: Preparing for the future”, on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at INNOVATHENS of Technopolis City of Athens. The conference was under the Patronage of Municipality of Athens, Eurordis-Rare Diseases Europe and Cystic Fibrosis Europe, and with the support of Vertex Pharmaceuticals- Platinum Sponsor and Donors: Special TherapeuticsPARIAskpharma. 

During the conference the presentation of the first interactive children’s book for Cystic Fibrosis in Greece was held. “Secret Mission: C.F.”, is a new project of HCFA for young CF patients and their caregivers. More info for the book HERE. Furthermore, HCFA awarded the retired pediatrician, Dr. Adam Georgios, for his outstanding contribution to the establishement of HCFA in 1983. 

The Conference began with warm welcome talks of Greek Minister of Health, Mihalis Xrisoxoidis, CEO of Eurordis-Rare Diseases Europe, Yann Le Cam, President of EOPYY, Theano Karpodini, President of Institute of Child Health, Christina Kanaka- Gantenbein, DPO of Greek Ministry of Health, Dimitris Zografopoulos, Working group’s scientific coordinator of “Hospital at Home”, Greek Ministry of Health, Ioannis Tsanakas, President of Hellenic Pulmonary Society, Stylianos Loukidis and President of Hellenic Pediatric Respiratory Society, Emmanouil Paraskakis. The agenda of the conference included interesting presentations from CF centers’ clinicians and health scientists, who informed us about: treatments- therapies for CF, impact of innovative treatments and changes in symptomatic disease management, aspergillus-related lung disease in CF, new antibiotics for CF, sleep disorders, lung transplants in Greece, follow up and complications of transplant CF patients, CF Related Diabetes, fertility and pregnancy, respiratory physiotherapy & exercise, group cognitive behavioral psychotherapy project and testimonials of group therapy participants, CF patients and caregivers.
