With the beginning of autumn, the new President of our Association, Mrs.Spinou Anna, along with the General Secretary Mr.Vassilis Palios and the Honorary President Mr.Dimitris Kontopidis warmly welcomed the new pulmonologist, Mrs.Eleni Stagaki Stagaki. Ms Stagaki took up her duties on 7 August 2018 in the Cystic Fibrosis Unit, which now has more than 250 adult patients. Along with the welcome greetings, they expressed their commitment to continued support for further development of the department until it reaches the European standards that every unit has or should have. It is worth noting that the Adult Unit of Sismanoglio is constantly adding new patients from the paediatric departments and as according to European standards of C.F. Units there is only 1 physician per 100 patients, we will need to recruit a 3rd pulmonologist from 2019.

At the same time, another success is the staffing of our unit for one year, by the pulmonologist Mrs. Bourgani Irini, through a scholarship of the Hellenic Pulmonological Society.

Finally, on the same day, a meeting of our representatives took place with the new responsible for home care at Sismanoglio, Mrs. Kallianidou Evangelia. It is an effort that has been going on for the last 2.5 years and we expect to successfully complete the procedures for the start of home care in the Sismanoglio C.F. unit in a short period of time. An institution which will decongest the unit and will be implemented for the first time institutionally for adult CF patients in Greece.

The continuous efforts, the direct interventions and the cooperation of the representatives of our Association and our doctors continue to pay off. With the same perseverance and strategic planning we will continue to strive and contribute to solutions that will improve the life expectancy and quality of life of patients with cystic fibrosis.
