Coordination of the Conference “Health Financing: Challenges and solutions for a sustainable system”

Moderator of the second session of the workshop “Health financing: Challenges and Solutions for a Sustainable System” of the Forum on Health Economics and Policies was the President of the Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association, Anna Spinou. The Workshop was held on Wednesday 21 June 2023 at the auditorium of the HBA, organised by the Forum for Health Economics and Policies and the Institute of Health Economics (i-hecon).

The workshop discussed a range of issues related to health financing, including the fiscal environment, the social determinants of health, citizens’ perspectives on health sector priorities, new approaches to health financing, and the dimensions of efficiency and equity in resource allocation.

Anna Spinou moderated the second session of the workshop entitled “Efficiency and equity in resource sharing”. The session was attended by Professor of Health Services Management and Organization, Department of Social Work, School of Social, Political & Economic Sciences, Democritus University of Thrace (D.P.Th. ) Mr. Nikos Polyzos, PhD, Assistant Professor in Health Economics, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mr. Aris Angelis and Professor, Director of the Health Technology Assessment Laboratory-LabHTA, Department of Public Health Policies, Dean of the School of Public Health, University of West Attica Ms. Irini Pavi. The session discussed the concerns and current challenges for the equitable use of resources in health services, pharmaceutical care, prevention and public health. As moderator, Anna Spinou highlighted through the example of Cystic Fibrosis the fact that health policies and resource management are not about impersonal statistics and numbers, but about the lives of patients.
