The webinar on Nutrition in Cystic Fibrosis drew a large audience

442 participants from all over Greece attended the scientific webinar on modern approaches and personalized nutritional care for cystic fibrosis.

What are the latest developments in cystic fibrosis?
How is the diet of patients with cystic fibrosis changing in the era of new, innovative treatments?
What does personalized nutritional care mean in practice?
How are nutritional needs adjusted when the course of the disease itself changes?

These were some of the key questions that took center stage during the webinar “Cystic Fibrosis & Nutrition: Modern Approaches and Personalized Care,” held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, with the participation of patients, parents, dietitians and nutritionists, healthcare professionals, and other interested parties.

The webinar was organized by the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association, in scientific collaboration with the Panhellenic Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists (PSDD), highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to the modern care of people with cystic fibrosis.

The webinar marked the end of a month filled with activities aimed at raising awareness, awareness-raising, and practical support for patients, organized by the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association to mark World Cystic Fibrosis Day (September 8), spreading the message of “Unlimited Breath” throughout Greece.

From New Treatments to the New Reality of Nutrition

Advances in treatments that target the underlying causes of cystic fibrosis are opening up new possibilities for patients, but they also raise new questions regarding diet, metabolism, and their individual needs.

Through three academic presentations, different yet complementary aspects of this new reality were explored:

– Filia Diamantea, Pulmonologist and Director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit at the General Hospital of Athens “Sismanogleio,” presented the latest therapeutic advances in cystic fibrosis and the emerging needs of patients.

– Christina Katsagoni, Assistant Professor of Clinical Nutrition for Children and Adolescents at the International University of Greece, highlighted the role of nutritional care in the era of innovative CFTR modifier therapies and the importance of adapting it to patients’ changing needs.

– Ioanna-Panagiota (Nana) Kalafati, Assistant Professor of Nutrigenetics at Harokopio University, presented practical dietary advice tailored to different patient profiles, highlighting personalized approaches to nutrition.

The event was coordinated with great success by Anna Spinou, President of the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association, and Melina Karipidou, President of the Panhellenic Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists.

The question-and-answer session was of particular interest, during which participants asked key questions and discussed with the scientists issues that affect the daily lives of patients with cystic fibrosis.

The strong response highlights patients’ new needs

The participation of 442 people in a specialized scientific webinar on nutrition in cystic fibrosis highlighted the strong interest in reliable and up-to-date information, especially at a time when advances in treatment are changing patients’ needs and daily lives.

This overwhelming response also underscores the importance of collaboration between patient organizations and scientific bodies, so that specialized knowledge reaches not only the patients themselves and their families but also the healthcare professionals who care for them.

Knowledge and awareness are important tools for better disease management. As treatment options evolve, the care of patients with cystic fibrosis needs to evolve alongside them, focusing on the real and individualized needs of each patient.

We would like to extend our warmest thanks to the Panhellenic Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists for their excellent scientific collaboration, the distinguished speakers for their interesting and scientifically sound presentations, the presidents of the two associations for their effective moderation of the discussion during the webinar and for its overall organization, as well as all the participants, whose interest and questions contributed to a meaningful dialogue on nutrition in cystic fibrosis.

We continue to promote awareness, knowledge, and interdisciplinary collaboration, with the goal of providing the best possible care and a life with Unlimited Breath!
