World Cystic Fibrosis Day 2026—A September Full of Activities for “Unlimited Breath”

To mark World Cystic Fibrosis Day on September 8, 2026, the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association organized a series of important activities, initiatives, and partnerships, spreading the message of awareness, solidarity, and “Unlimited Breath” throughout Greece.

From the symbolic illuminations of the country’s iconic landmarks—organized in collaboration with the Greek Pulmonary Fibrosis Association “Lungs of Life”—to “Secret Mission: C.F.²” at the Book Festival, the announcement of a donation of 75 respiratory devices with the support of METLEN, and the scientific webinar on nutrition, the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association continues to combine raising public awareness with providing substantial support to the patient community.

Important initiatives with the common goal of providing information, raising awareness, improving care, and enabling a life with Unlimited Breath!

Two Organizations, One Common Message — Greece Lit Up for Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Fibrosis

The events began on September 8, when iconic landmarks across the country sent a unified message to inform and raise awareness about two different lung diseases that are often confused due to the similarity in their names.

The Hellenic Parliament in Athens, the Zongolopoulos Umbrellas in Thessaloniki, and the Rio-Antirrio Bridge took part in the symbolic lighting and projection event, conveying a shared message.

“Cystic Fibrosis – Pulmonary Fibrosis.
“Two different diseases. Two strong communities. One shared breath.”

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association and the Hellenic Pulmonary Fibrosis Association “Lungs of Life,” linking World Cystic Fibrosis Day with September, Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month.

“Secret Mission: C.F.²” at the 54th Book Festival!

On September 13, 2026, the Main Stage of the 54th Book Festival at Pedion tou Areos was transformed into a huge Secret Headquarters!

Children and families became Secret Agents, met Chloe and Kiri, discovered their Hidden Abilities, sang, danced, and took part in interactive games filled with messages of empathy, acceptance, and inclusion.

More than 300 copies of the children’s book “Secret Mission: C.F.²” were distributed free of charge, spreading the campaign’s message to even more families.

“Secret Mission: C.F.²” is an educational campaign by the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association that, drawing on the challenges of cystic fibrosis, invites children to discover their own Hidden Abilities, the inner strengths that help them face life’s difficulties. Through children’s books and hands-on activities, the campaign links Cystic Fibrosis with Classified Faculties (C.F.²), fostering empathy, acceptance, and inclusion.

75 ventilators for patients with cystic fibrosis and transplant recipients throughout Greece

World Cystic Fibrosis Day 2026 was also marked by a significant initiative to provide practical support to patients.

For the second consecutive year, METLEN supported the Respiratory Equipment Donation Program of the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association, enabling the free distribution of 75 respiratory devices (60 personal spirometers and 15 nebulizers) to patients with cystic fibrosis and lung transplant recipients throughout Greece.

Through this program, we enhance the ability to monitor respiratory function at home and support patients’ daily therapeutic care, while also helping to ease the financial burden on their families.
