“Recent Developments in Cystic Fibrosis in the Field of Physiotherapy, Exercise & Nutrition”

Conference on New Developments in Cystic Fibrosis with the support of Aegean College.

The Minister of Health Mr. P. Kouroumblis, his scientific partner Mr. V. Avgoulas and the actors M. Kostis and A. Konstantinidis, helpers in the effort of patients with Cystic Fibrosis “each breath a step closer to our dreams”

On Friday 22 May 2015 at 10.00-13.00, in the presence of the Minister of Health, Mr. Aegean College and the Hellenic Society for Fibrous Cystic Disease and the Aegean College, successfully held a one-day conference on “Cystic Fibrosis: Recent Developments in Fibrous Cystic Disease in the Field of Physiotherapy – Exercise – Nutrition”, at the premises of the College of the Educational Group OMIROS, with the support of the Association of Midwives and Obstetricians of Athens.

Exercise and physiotherapy are the main pillars in the treatment of patients with Cystic Fibrosis. In this context of information and education we have therefore started an effort to inform students and health professionals – specialties involved in Cystic Fibrosis such as physiotherapists, dieticians, etc.

Throughout the day, the attendees and the citizens of Athens had the opportunity to be informed about this hereditary disease through the special booth that operated at the Aegean College.

The Workshop, which was supported by the Athens Association of Midwives and Obstetricians, was held at the Aegean University of Athens:

-Mrs. I. Loukou, Pediatrician – Pediatric Pulmonologist, Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Department of the Children’s Hospital “Agia Sophia”
-Mrs. V. Karapatousha, Physiotherapist.
-Mrs. N. Kalafati, Dietitian – Nutritionist, Doctor of the Harokopio University of Athens
-Mrs. M. Varsaki, BSc Physiotherapy Graduate of Aegean College
-Mr. D. Kontopidis, President of the Hellenic Society for Fibrous Cystic Disease

The commitment of the Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association is to continue the cooperation with both the Aegean College and the respective institutions in order to inform and educate students and health professionals related to Cystic Fibrosis. In the coming period, efforts have been focused on the creation of a network of specialized physiotherapists, dieticians as individualized exercise, specialized physiotherapy and nutrition are the main pillars in the treatment of patients with Cystic Fibrosis.
