Encouraging first data from research into a new gene therapy for Cystic Fibrosis

Encouraging first results have been announced from a clinical study of a new experimental gene therapy for Cystic Fibrosis. The treatment is for patients who cannot receive existing CFTR modulator therapies or do not have sufficient benefit from them.

The gene therapy is called 4D-710 and is being developed by 4D Molecular Therapeutics. It is in the early stages of clinical trials. According to the data so far, the treatment appeared to be safe and some participants showed signs of improved respiratory function.

The researchers point out that the results are early and that more studies are needed to confirm whether and in which patients it may prove beneficial.
