The “Secret Mission: Cystic Fibrosis” begins its journey to schools

A nationwide educational campaign for knowledge, empathy & power that inspires us

A special initiative of the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association officially starts in December 2025.

We are very pleased to announce the launch of the educational campaign “Secret Mission: the K.I.”, an innovative programme for students of 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade.

The campaign harnesses the power of storytelling, imagination and experiential learning to foster empathy, self-awareness and social sensitivity in children, and is part of the active citizenship skills.

Starting from an “invisible difficulty”, Cystic Fibrosis, the most common hereditary disease in the white race, the campaign highlights something visible and common to all children, the inner strength, imagination and Hidden Abilities that each one of them harbours.

“Those of us who have grown up with Cystic Fibrosis know well that every child carries questions, fears and strength, much more than it usually seems. The Secret Mission goes beyond the boundaries of Cystic Fibrosis and comes to inspire parents, teachers and children in Greece and abroad. It comes to show every child the way to discover the unlimited potential that lies within him or her, even when everything around seems to be a dead end.” , says Anna Spinou, President of the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association & patient with CF.

The educational campaign is under the auspices of Under the auspices of of Hellenic Paediatric Pulmonology Society, the Hellenic Transplantation Organisation (EOM) and the Hellenic Lung Society.

It is organized by the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association in collaboration with the writer-illustrator Liana Noezaki, with the support of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Platinum Sponsor and the Hellenic American Union, Special Therapeutics, PrintServe.

The content and implementation of the educational campaign is the result of the collaboration of a large interdisciplinary and artistic team: health specialists, health professionals, educators, teachers, psychologists, writers, illustrators, artists, musicians, theatre educators, as well as members of the patient and caregiver community. Together, with knowledge, love and dedication, they all contributed to the creation of an educational program with a unique purpose: to give voice, knowledge, power and imagination to every child.

The educational campaign “Secret Mission: C.I.²” was officially presented at the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Conference 2025, attracting great interest from the scientific community, educators, parents and the general public.

The book “Secret Mission: K.I.²” – The heart of the campaign

The first edition of the book “Secret Mission: K.I.” (2023) was created for children with Cystic Fibrosis as a tool for empowerment and acceptance.

The new enriched edition with renewed content “Secret Mission: K.I.²” (November 2025) opens this journey to all children, whether they are living with a disability or not.

Through puzzles, mysteries and new missions, Chloe and Kiri, the book’s secret agents and heroes, discover that the secret code K.I. means much more than Cystic Fibrosis. It means Hidden Abilities, the powers that every child has to deal with any difficulty in life.

“The story of Chloe and Kiri was born out of the need to give children a way to understand the world and find ways to deal with any challenge that they face.
I hope that this story will travel as far as possible, giving children the certainty that imagination, empathy and power already exist within them. All they need is someone to show them how to discover them.
If the “Secret Mission” becomes for even one child a small source of light and strength, then it has already achieved its purpose”, says the author and illustrator of the book, Liana Nenezaki, whose imagination and sensitivity gave the “Secret Mission” the color, soul and warmth that characterize every page of the two books.

You can browse the first and second edition of the book “Secret Mission: K.I.” and “Secret Mission: K.I.²” here: https://secretmission.cysticfibrosis.gr/to-vivlio-mystiki-apostoli-k-i-2/

The “Secret Mission: K.I.²”, will soon be released as an e-book, available free of charge through the campaign website.

Transplantation & organ donation in a way that children understand

In “Secret Mission: K.I.²” in a simple and pedagogically appropriate way, transplantation and organ donation are also presented, not as medical acts but as acts of giving, solidarity and second chances at life. These are concepts related to Cystic Fibrosis, but ultimately they concern every human being, as all of us may need a transplant at some point in our lives.

In the educational approach, we do not ask children to take a stand or talk about technical medical issues. Instead, we use this topic as an opportunity to foster concepts such as empathy, giving, respect for life and hope. The discussion takes place in a safe, supportive context where children understand that a human act can change someone else’s life.

Objectives of the Educational Campaign
  • Provide clear and sensitive information about Cystic Fibrosis, modern treatments, transplantation and organ donation.
  • Cultivate empathy, acceptance and respect for the uniqueness of each child.
  • Help all children to recognise their own inner strength and the “voices” that encourage them.
  • To turn health knowledge into joy, play and creation.
  • To teach children when a “NO” protects them and when it can become “WHY NO?”.
  • To strengthen the role of the school as a place of safety, inclusion and self-awareness.

It includes structured classroom materials, aimed at active engagement, collaboration and experiential learning.

The pedagogical editing and documentation is by Dr. Zoe Krokou, Special Pedagogy, who notes: “The approach emphasizes the experiential nature of learning and the power of emotional experiences, enhancing the self-awareness of all students by ‘transforming’ the initial letters of Cystic Fibrosis into ‘Hidden Skills’.
Through role-playing, collaborative activities, narrative texts, digital applications and visual media, students are invited to put themselves in the shoes of a child with cystic fibrosis, reflect on their challenges, recognize their strengths and form attitudes of acceptance and solidarity.”

Teacher Training Seminars

In December, the Association will hold the first free online teacher training seminars. The seminars are addressed to teachers of grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 of primary school, kindergarten teachers, school psychologists, students of pedagogy, and are open for participation to anyone interested in learning about the programme and proposing it to their local school.

The seminars will present how to apply the children’s book “Secret Mission: K.I.2” and the educational material in the classroom, with interdisciplinary activities, missions and pedagogical empowerment tools.

The speakers of the seminars are Dr. Zoe Krokou, the author and illustrator of the book, Liana Noezaki, the President of the Association & patient with C.I. Anna Spinou, and the Vice President of the Association & mother of a child with C.I. Konstantina Giannaki.

The seminars will be held for 2025 via Zoom:

The dates of the 2026 seminars will be announced in January.
Participation is free of charge, and upon completion of the seminar, participants will receive a free copy of the book “Secret Mission: K.I.²”.

Interactive presentations in schools

In December, the actions in schools begin, with the first interactive presentations of the book to take place on Wednesday 17 December 2025 at the 4ᵒ Primary School of Thebes and on Monday 22 December 2025 at the 2ᵒ Primary School of Agioi Anargyroi.

“Knowledge, acceptance and love can change a child’s life. It is vital that schools accept and embrace each child as they are, giving them space to feel safe, express themselves and find their own way.
This campaign brings us closer to that vision. A school where information becomes understanding, difficulty becomes strength and no child feels alone.” says Konstantina Giannaki, Vice President of the Association & mother of a 10-year-old patient with CF.

From February 2026, new presentations will start in primary schools across the country.
