Two different diseases. Two strong communities. One shared breath.

In observance of September 8—World Cystic Fibrosis Day—and September—Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month, the Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association and the Hellenic Pulmonary Fibrosis Association “Lungs of Life” joined forces in a joint information and awareness campaign.

On the evening of September 8, iconic landmarks in Athens, Thessaloniki, and Rio-Antirrio sent a common message to all of Greece: to raise awareness of these two diseases and, above all, of the people living with them.

ATHENS – HELLENIC PARLIAMENT
A specially designed visual display dedicated to Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Fibrosis was projected onto the facade of the Hellenic Parliament, conveying the shared message of the two associations to the heart of Athens.

THESSALONIKI – ZOGGOLOPOULOU UMBRELLAS
The iconic structure on Thessaloniki’s beach was symbolically illuminated in the blue color of the Associations.

RIO-ANTIRRIO – “CHARILAOS TRIKOUPIS” BRIDGE
The Rio-Antirrio Bridge was symbolically illuminated in blue, while the awareness message was also displayed on electronic signs for passing drivers.

Two different diseases. Two strong communities. One shared breath.

Cystic fibrosis and pulmonary fibrosis are two distinct diseases that are often confused because they share the word “fibrosis.” They differ in their causes and progression, but they share a common challenge: breathing and the need for a better quality of life.

The images from September 8 shed light on more than just Greece’s iconic landmarks. They brought to light the people who live with these two diseases every day and their need for information, visibility, better care, and a better life.

The Panhellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association and the Hellenic Pulmonary Fibrosis Association “Lungs of Life” are joining forces to send a joint message:
