 “EACH BREATH”: Awareness – Prevention

Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association

On Friday, September 9th, 2016, the Health Care Business Awards Ceremony took place. The main aim was to highlight and reward excellence, innovation, development initiatives and good practices in business, institutions and organizations in the healthcare sector. The Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association participated in the ceremony and received the gold award in the category “Patient Associations, awareness and prevention campaigns” for the creation of the “EACH BREATH” awareness campaign.

“George, Vivian and Sofia, who are no longer with us, are the patients who dared to publicly expose themselves and shed light on the previously  unseen world of patients with rare diseases! It might be a good case study for the wider community of rare diseases. It was the patients themselves that acted as the instigators, creators, actors and the ones who implemented this campaign. If we went this far working solely with volunteers, then anyone can make it. Most importantly, we highlighted the fact that, despite this serious disease, some patients dare and with each breath get a step closer to their dreams.

This was the acceptance speech of the creator of “EACH BREATH” awareness campaign, Dimitris Kontopidis, President of the Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association (HCFA). The award was handed to Mr Kontopidis and Ms Anna Spinou, General Secretary of the HCFA by Stamatis Vardaro, Deputy General Secretary of the Ministry of Health.

Mr Kontopidis thanked the organizers and the jury for the recognition of their efforts and pointed out that such initiatives, with strict criteria and high standards, support and encourages patient organizations to raise their voluntary work to more professional level.
